What If Your Driverless Car Refused to Let You Leave? | The InSight Out Show | Ep. 264
Driverless cars are designed to keep passengers safe. But what happens when the car decides the passenger is the danger? Two 15-year-olds in California found themselves in that strange situation after a Waymo detected risky behavior, stopped the ride, and contacted police.
There’s a lot to appreciate about technology that can recognize danger and respond quickly. But it also raises a bigger question about control. As more technology begins making decisions for us in the name of safety, how much authority are we comfortable handing over?
Scripture (NIV): Proverbs 16:9 – “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
Reflection Questions:
How much control are you comfortable giving technology when it’s designed to protect you?
Where should the line be between helpful automation and human authority?
